Leon Boyer , was born with Florac (Lozere) in 1851. In 1869, it is received with the Polytechnic school, and becomes in 1875 engineer of the Ponts and Chaussées.

In 1878 it is in charge of the construction of the line of Railroad between Marvejols and Neussargues. He proposes to cross the valley of the Truyère by a viaduct of 123m height. He thus proposes with Gustave Eiffel to build the Viaduc of Garabit.

In 1884 he becomes chief engineer of the Bridges and Chaussées, and is named the following year Managing director of work of the Panama Canal.

As nearly 4000 other people during construction of this channel, he dies in 1886 carried by the Yellow fever.
