Leon Bouthillier (1608 - October 11th 1652), count of Chavigny, was very young associate with his father, Claude Bouthillier, which took it with him of 1629 to 1632 in all large the courses of Europe, informing it in diplomacy. To differentiate Bouthillier father and wire, Leon " was invited; Mister Jeune".

March 18th, 1632, it is named Secretary of foreign affairs and second the work of his father, so that it is not always easy to distinguish their respective work. In 1635, it signs a treaty of alliance with Holland and Sweden.

Faithful to Richelieu, it acts as messenger between Gaston of Orleans and the government. He was also a friend of Mazarin but their friendship did not resist the period of regency.

After the death of Louis XIII, it must give up its office on June 23rd, 1643 but it is sent like plenipotentiary to the negotiations of Munster. It does not shine there and especially was done noticed with the pleasures and the festivals.

Returned to France, it intrigues against Mazarin and approaches the prince de Condé. Decree twice during the Sling, it takes again a little being able for one short period of exile of Mazarin (April 1651), but falls down then in its small intrigues which will not lead to nothing.

In October 1652, the day before its death, it makes a large gift with Antoine Singlin, Janséniste, director of Port-Royal, which will be even suspected of extortion of money on this occasion.
