Leon Biancotto

Leon Biancotto (1927 - August 22nd, 1960) was a French aviator.

Biography

Leon Biancotto is born in 1927, in a modest family. Expressing very early its attraction for aviation, it is patented on sailplane and plane in 1947. Quickly noticed for its address as regards piloting, it will begin its career as an instructor at the aero club of Montlucon before devoting to the Aerobatics. In parallel, and after a training course with CEV, he becomes test pilot on light planes.

Prize list

Biancotto quickly obtains an impressive prize list with the contests of stunt-flying in which it takes part: second with the championship of Toussus-the-Noble France of stunt-flying with in 1954, it gains in particular international Coventry in 1955, 1956 and 1958.

In 1959, it establishes the world records of flight reversed with 1:16 mn. (This record will be beaten on May 28th 1974 by John Leggatt which will carry it to 2:15 mn and 4 seconds above the desert of the Arizona.)

He dies on August 29th 1960 at a preliminary training session to the championship of the world with Bratislava. He controlled a Northern then 3202. The investigation concludes with a weakness structural of the apparatus.

Rewards

In-outside the successes obtained in the championships of stunt-flying, Biancotto had also obtained:
  • a Quotation with the Order of the Nation
  • a medal of aeronautics, youth and sports
  • He was Chevalier of the Légion of honor

A Bucker 131 of the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis pays homage to him, with its prize list registered on the fuselage of the apparatus.
