Leoben Conoy

Leoben Conoy is a character of the Televised series Battlestar Galactica interpreted by Callum Keith Rennie.

Leoben Conoy is an agent cylon met for the first time in the Station Ragnar. He claims to be a prophet with a certain predilection for dogma an enlightened and religious monotheist, whereas he tends to sow the doubt or the misinformation, weaving lies taking again the truth and his faith.

The copy of the Station Ragnar

The spectator meets for the first time the character of Conoy on the Ragnar station, where it is made pass for a retailer of weapons. It seems that one assigned the monitoring of this station-deposit to him when the war started, charging it with recovering information on the space men-of-war which visit it. Its mission is perhaps also to fly or destroy the ammunition (even the station itself) so that the Colonial ones cannot use its resources.

Conoy is seriously touched by the radioactivity which reigns on Ragnar, probably because it was there for a certain time when the Galactica arrives.

It is found trapped on the station with the commander Adama after the accidental explosion of a warhead. It is presented as a kind of philosopher but is not long in betraying itself in the conversation with Adama whereas they are in the search of an exit. Suspecting Conoy and indicator that this one will die, Adama causes it and learns that Cylons can transfer their conscience towards another body after their death. But this copy of Leoben will not be able to do it because it is damaged too much by radiations.

A brawl follows, during which Leoben shows an extraordinary force and a speed. Adama manages to kill it by wedging to him the head using a pipe of ventilation and by crashing to pieces to him cranium with blows of lamp-torch. It carries then the body of Leoben until the Galactica in order to proceed to the autopsy. The discovery of synthetic matters in the body bring the proof to Adama, the Colonel Tigh and the Doctor Gaïus Baltar that Cylons can take a human appearance. ( Télésuite )

The body is stored thereafter in the mortuary of the vessel. ( Of Flesh and blood )

Later, three copies of Leoben take part in the rescue of Aaron Doral, abandoned on Ragnar by the Colonial ones after Doctor Baltar denounced it like agent Cylon and questioned.

The copy of the Gemenon Traveller

The crew again crosses a copy of Conoy, apparently hidden on board the Gemenon Traveller . Knowing the capacity of the model to mix truth and the forgery to disorientate the human ones, Adama wants to destroy this copy. However, President Roslin exceeds her decision and requires that Conoy be questioned.

The lieutenant Kara “Starbuck” Thrace is appointed to lead the interrogation of Conoy to edge of the Gemenon Traveller . In the eight hours space, Conoy shows its skill to confuse and mix truth and lies: he claims to have placed a nuclear bomb some share in the fleet, but refuses to reveal his site. Its discour is a mixture of is delirious, penetrating analysis of colonial philosophy and exact information on Starbuck. ( Of Flesh and blood )

Whereas she resorts to the torture to make him say where is the bomb, Starbuck suddenly has the outline in the way in which Leoben apprehends the existence. This moment of communion is so strong that when Roslin orders its execution, Starbuck is able to be put at its place.

Before its death, Conoy reveals that there does not exist bomb and uses a reason suggested by Starbuck at the beginning of its interrogation to explain its lie: it is too far from the centers of cylon influence to transmit its spirit to a new body. However, it reveals the true object of its mission when the President Roslin arrives on board the Gemenon Traveller and it manages to murmur to him that Adama is in fact a cylon, placing a serious doubt between her and Adama.

Now convinced of the danger to keep alive Conoy, Roslin orders that it is ejected vessel by a conduit.

An interesting fact is that Roslin had a premonition of Conoy appearing in the fleet whereas it made a dream on him at the time when it was captured. Later, in its cabin on the Colonial a , it has a vision of Leoben asking for its decision to him of come to visit it in person, enabling him to achieve its mission.

At the time of the dream and vision, Roslin supposed that both resulted from its use of the Chamalla , used to treat its cancer. But both can be the result of some form of psychic gift on behalf of Conoy.

Other copies

Apparently the resistance of Caprica captured and questioned its own copy of Conoy, since Samuel Anders quotes of a sarcastic tone the philosophy of the cylon with Starbuck. ( Resistance ) This is purely of the speculation.

Leoben or two is seen in background in the scenes of the park and the coffee in the episode Téléchargement ; however, it is a lining which makes figuration, since Calum Keith Rennie was not available for this episode.

During the invasion cylon of the News Caprica, a copy of Leoben enters the tent of Kara Thrace and Samuel Anders and request in Anders, confined to bed, where Thrace is ( Posez your burden, 2nd part). It is not certain that it is Leoben of the Ragnar station, that which Kara questions or another copy.
