Juan Leovigildo Brouwer is a Compositeur, Guitariste and Leader cuban, born on March 1st 1939 with Havana (Cuba)

Biography

It starts to play of the guitar at the 13 years age. It is his/her father and his aunt who teach the music to him. It makes its professional beginnings with the 17 years age. It continues its musical formation with the the United States off at the University of Hartford then to the Juilliard School Music of New York where it studies the composition with Stefan Wolpe. He quickly forsakes the folk side of the national inspiration to turn to the avant-garde, in particular the contemporary type-setters Luigi Nono and Iannis Xenakis.

In 1960, Brouwer is named director of the Instituto Cubano de Arte E Industria Cinematograficos. He is also professor of composition to the Conservatoire National of Havana of 1961 with 1967. He was to advise musical with the cuban radio and principal manager of the cuban national Symphony orchestra during ten years. In 1992, it founds the Orchestre of Cordoue ( Orchesta de Cordóba ) in Spain and until in 2001 is the titular chief. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Cuban Contest of Guitar of Havana and the Festival which proceeds there every two years.
