Lentinus
The lentin is a kind of mushroom, containing species classified a long time among the Agaricales in the family of the Pleurotaceae ( Panus ), but now joined together with the Polyporaceae. Their spores are smooth, nonstarch. Like the Polypore S, the lentins are mushrooms with fibrous flesh and enough coriace. Their hat can be white, lilacin, yellowish, ochracé with brown russet-red, sometimes moucheté. The blades are narrow and more or less rudimentary, forming folds (pliciformes). The edge of the blades sterile, is often denticulées or serrulée.
The foot always present, is more or less developed and often excentré like that of the pleurotes.
Striped Lentin
The striped lentin ( Lentinus tigrinus ), a species often coming in tufts on trunks and stocks various Leafy, especially Poplar S and Willow S. The hat, very variable of aspect, is recognizable with the squamules brown-black which recover the foot and the hat. A ring cortiniforme is present on the foot in youth. The blades are cream-coloured with yellowish white. Savor is not very pleasant, the rancid butter odor and the flesh coriace make very poor edible in a young state.
