An article of the Grande Bibliothèque of Tamriel.

The province of Lenclume (or " Hammerfell"), like its inhabitants, Rougegardes, seem relatively strange with the eyes of the other human ones of the Empire. Indeed, contrary to all the other men, who are originating in Scandinavian Atmora, the native soil of Rougegardes is Yokuda, a mysterious continent now disappeared.

The name of the Province (" Hammerfell" in English) would be a deformation of its name dwemer: Volenfell (the City of the Hammer in language dwemer). Geography Lenclume To increase Lenclume

Lenclume is located on the west coast of the Empire of Tamriel, and its northern coast (where Sentinelle is, the capital) form with that of Hauteroche the Bay of Illiac.

All in all, the climate is rather arid, even if the coasts profit from a certain softness, which made there more favourable the development of cities. The back-country as for him is divided between desert and more or less broken relief. Culture

The inhabitants of Lenclume are savage and likely. Little disciplined, they train nevertheless, of the general opinion, the best warriors of the continent, so much so that the name of one their warlike castes, Rougegardes (of the yoku " Ra-Gada"), came from there to designate inhabitant of Lenclume indistinctly very. Because precisely of their notorious indiscipline, there does not exist in Lenclume of army made up, but rather a dust of militia related to local potentates or cities.

At present, their civilization is declined in two tendencies. The coasts and their large cities are the field of an elite enriched thanks to the trade, and whose manners tended to be aligned on those of the Empire and Hauteroche. The back-country, more wild because mainly covered by the extents with the desert with Alik' R, is the field of more or less wandering tribes, from which the lifestyle and the traditions are not very far away from the old habits of Yokuda.

It is of this back-country that comes the hateful famous one from Lenclume near the visitors, in spite of the splendid landscapes. But the situation develops in a positive way, grace in particular to the beneficial effects of Imperial Peace. History

Three approximately thousand years before the reign of Tiber Septim, a continent of the name of Yokuda, in the West of Tamriel, was the theater of upheavals of grounds, volcanic eruptions, floods and finally of an almost total immersion, which brought most of the human people which lived there to emigrate.

Its inhabitants were established in two phases in what was going to become Lenclume. The majority settled temporarily in an island with broad, with in particular the family members reigning, Na-Totambu, while a small army unloaded on the continent and started to cut a place between the small kingdoms which existed at that time. These warriors were Ra-Gada. They had early made sweep local resistances. The whole of their people joined them then. The newcomers, whose techniques of agriculture and warlike exceeded those of the natives by far (small Nedic kinglets, or tribes semi-man, semi-animal like Argoniens), supplanted them without difficulty, while assimilating part of their culture, religion and language mainly.

Quickly two distinct leading castes coexisted: Na-Totambu, the original elite, which was incorporated easily in the strongly hierarchical structure of the nobility of the Empire of Cyrodiil, and the Ra-Gada, which constituted the basic nobility. Ra-Gada named Forebears, since they had been the first of their people to take foot on Tamriel.

Besides they took more and more importance, so much so that the High-King of Yokudéens came from there to move its capital of its initial place, the Hégathe Old woman, towards a city held by Forebears, Sentinelle, which with the passing of years had become a powerful commercial center.

Thassad II, one of these High-Kings, was reversed by a revolution fomented by Forebears, who reflect fine at the same time at several centuries of domination of Na-Totambu. The Crown prince A' Tor then decided once and for all to regulate the problem of old Ra-Gada, which had taken a too important political weight in its eyes. He unloaded on the coasts of Sentinel with a powerful army of loyal supporters. One of the worst blood baths of the history of Tamriel followed. Forebears last their safety only with the call which they made in Tiber Septim, of right the suzerain of the Top-Kings, whose legions demolished the troops of A' Tor. Lenclume consequently was fully integrated into the Empire, in spite of the bitterness of certain men of Yokuda.
