Len Lye

Len Lye , born Leonard Charles Huia Lye (July 5th 1901 - May 15th 1980) was an artist, a writer, New Zealand and experimental a film avant-gardists sculptor and realizer.

He was one of the pioneers of the creation of color films in the Thirties. It used technique of Dr. Bleated Gaspar, Gasparcolor, where the camera was equipped with a semi-reflective mirror which divided the spectrum into three monochromic images, which once recombined, formed an image color.

He was also the inventor of “direct film”, created without camera. most famous is 'free radicals". With many recoveries he undertook to use surgical instruments, brushes, pencils, etc… to create forms and textures on film.

He was also a recognized writer, and a remarkable sculptor for his sculptures " kinétiques"
