Lekié (department)

The Lekié is a department of the province of the Center of the Cameroun, named according to the river Lekié.

Demography

It is populated by the Étons and the Manguissas. These two people are mainly agricultural and produce 60 to 70% of the vivres sold on the market of the capital Yaounde. This favoured by its approximity with the capital. The two ethnos groups count approximately 400.000 inhabitants of which more of the fifth of the population of the province of the center.

Economy

Bordering on the departments of Mbam, Lekié is the second large producer of the Cacao of Cameroun. Yesterday first producer, it saw himself charming this place by the departments of Mbam. The cultures known as of revenue becoming less in less profitable, the farmers of Lekié are activated more with the production of the market gardenings carrying of more than incomes.
