Lejeune (Quebec)
Lejeune is a municipality in the regional Municipalité of county of the Témiscouata to the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Low-Saint-Laurent.
This municipality forms with Saint-Juste-of-Lake and Auclair, more in the west, Jal, a geographical area whose territory is located at the east of the Lac Témiscouata.
Colonized as from 1931, this territory will be set up in municipality, in 1964, under the name of Saint-Godard-of-Lejeune. The parish, set up canonically in 1968, will take as for it the name of Saint-Godard, quite simply. One will attend the change of the name of the municipality in that of Lejeune at the beginning of 1991.
Toponymy
One is unaware of the reason for attribution of Lejeune, although one suspects that it can be a question of the father Paul the Young person (1591-1664), Jesuit who, accompanied by a group of Amerindians, remained in the area during the winter 1633-1634. The father the Young person was then higher Jesuits, in Quebec. As for Saint-Godard, who constituted a service road since 1937, this name recalls a priest of the Ve-Life centuries, crowned bishop the same day as holy Medard, into 530. These twin brothers, according to the legend, were also high with the priesthood at the same time. How holy Medard was already titular of a parish of the diocese of the Low-Saint-Laurent, holy Godard was not to remain in remainder!
