Leinster

The Leinster (in Irish Laighean ), (in Latin Lagenia ) is the Eastern province of the Ireland, having for urban pole the Irish metropolis, Dublin.

It is composed of twelve counties, namely:

  • Carlow, Ceatharlach in Irish
  • Dublin, Áth Cliath in Irish
  • Kildare, Lash Dara in Irish
  • Kilkenny, Lash Cheannaigh in Irish
  • Laois, the same one in Irish
  • Longford, year Longfort in Irish
  • Louth, in Irish
  • Meath, year Mhí in Irish
  • Offaly, Uíbh Fhailí in Irish
  • Westmeath, year Iarmhí in Irish
  • Wexford, Log Garman in Irish
  • Wicklow, Lash Mhantáin in Irish

Leinster is by far the most populated province of Ireland. The Irish economic rebirth made grow Dublin, its suburbs (in particular Dún Laoghaire, Fingal, South Dublin), and other cities neighbouring (Bray, Drogheda). The population of the province at the time of the census of 2002 was of 2.105.449 inhabitants.
