Leimebamba

The district of Leimebamba is one of the 21 districts of the Province of Chachapoyas, Région of Amazonas to the Peru.

Leimebamba is in the mountain on banks of the Río Utcubamba. The Leimebamba capital (one writes also Leymebamba ) is at an altitude of 2.203 meters to the top of the sea level. The district is limited

  • to north by the district of San Francisco del Yeso,
  • in the east by the district of Huicungo,
  • in the south by the district of Chuquibamba and the Région of San Martín,
  • in the west by the district of Balsas.

It has a surface of 373.14 km ² and its population was estimated at 4.336 inhabitants in 2002.

On the territory of the district, one finds the archeological site of the Lac of the Condors, the museum Leymebamba, where one can discover the flora and the fauna of the sector, as well as the Momie S of the Lake of the Condors and the Quipu S.

One reaches Leimebamba by the road from the towns of Chachapoyas or Cajamarca.

The employers' festivals of the capital Leimebamba ( fiesta of San Augustin ) proceed on August 28th. One also celebrates the Virgen del Carmen , on July 16th.

The majority of the localities of Leimebamba are in the mountain, some are also near the Río Utcubamba. The most important market takes place Sunday in the locality of Yerbabuena.
