Leh

Leh ( sle in Tibetan) is the most important city of the Ladakh, located at 3500 m of altitude, in the valley of the Indus.

History

Of share its site on the Silk route, the town of Leh knew the prosperity of a great center caravaneer, but as the wars of influence and control as delivered themselves, on the ground of Ladakh, the Chinese and the Tibet ains during the 7th century.

The descendants of the Namgyal dynasty are always regarded as the leaders of Ladakh by the people.

Today

The city saw today primarily tourist activities and military. Leh became the central point of the tourist excursions in Ladakh. The walkers come from the whole world to traverse the country with foot, in 4x4 even in VTT. Among the most famous trekkings since Leh: increase of the valley of Markha or the river Zanskar in winter when it is cold and the rise of Stok Kangri (: 6121 meters). The Cashmere, conflict subject between the India, the Pakistan and the China, is a very on both sides militarized area border. Military bases are many all along the valley of Indus, centers major circulation of the area. With its national airport, the city is naturally a strategic place.
