Legolas Vertefeuille (in English Legolas Greenleaf ), more commonly called Legolas , is a character of the Seigneur of the Rings to the treacherous temperament.
Wire of Thranduil, the king of the Elves of the Black Forest (Mirkwood), Legolas is an expert swordsman as well as a very good archer with the piercing sight. Member of the Last nine Walkers of the the Community of the Ring, it binds friendship with the Dwarf Gimli, very rare fact between the Elves and Dwarves because of the proverbial disagreement between these two people. At the beginning of the Fourth Age, it leaves the Earth of the Medium, with Gimli, says one, not being able more to resist the call of the sea (like Galadriel at the time of its passage in Lórien had predicted).
In the film adaptation of the Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson, he is interpreted by Orlando Bloom.
The name of Legolas is also used by J.R.R Tolkien in the tale of the fall of Gondolin (see the Book of the Lost Tales, in the History of the Earth of the Medium). It is about Legolas Green-Sheet, of the House of the Tree, which allows the elves survivors of the battle of Gondolin, to escape in middle of the night. Its sight was piercing like that of a cat in the darkness, and even more.
In the list of names related to this tale, it is known as that Legolas " still lives on Tol Eressëa and is called there Laiqalassë by Eldars; but the book of Rumil into known as more to this sujet."
