Legislative elections sénégalaises of 2007

Context

The legislative elections were to take place with the Senegal the February 25th 2007. But, following the cancellation of an order in Council on the distribution of the deputies by the Council of State, they were deferred to June 3rd, 2007.

The elections proceeded thus after the presidential election which saw the disputed re-election of Abdoulaye Wade.

Participation

The principal parties of the opposition, (Rewmi, the Socialist party, the Alliance of the forces of progress and the democratic League/Movement for the party of work), joined together in the Face Siggil Senegal, decided to boycott these elections, in front of the refusal of the government to accept one audit of the electoral file.

This watchword seems to be heard since on the 5.002.533 registered voters, 1.738.185 went to the ballot boxes, that is to say 34,7%. As comparison, rate of participation had been of 67,4% at the time of the legislative elections of 2001.
