Legio III Gallica
The Legio III Gallica was a Roman Légion raised by Jules César towards 48 av. J. - C. It had as an emblem a Taureau.
Between 48 and 42 before J. - C., it is useful in Gaulle (from where it draws its name). In 33, the III Gallica takes share with the war against the Parthes.
Starting from 30 av. J. - C., it is affected in Syria with the camp of Emèse. In 63 a. J. - C., it takes part in the war of Arménie under the orders of Corbulon. From 68 to 70, it goes as a Messiah. It is there that she faces with her auxiliaries Sarmates Rhoxolants. It is again of return in Syria after 70 to Raphaneae after its reconstitution by the emperor Sévère Alexandre to Danaba, close to Damas.
This legion took share with the civil war into 69 by supporting Othon first of all, then with its death Vitellius and finally Vespasien. Under the orders of Othon, it takes part in the battle of Bédriac where it beats a retreat in front of the V Alaudae . After the death of Othon, she swears, like all the other legions, fidelity with Vitellius but made defection quickly. During the battle of Casement bolt, it is placed under the orders of Antonius and combat with the VII Galbiana . They put in rout the army of Vitellius, and install the seat in front of the town of Crémone. It is a soldier of III, Caius Volusius which entered the first the city.
Thereafter the legion turns over to Syria and constitutes one of the most important units of the province. It takes part in the parthic wars of Lucius Verus and Septime Sévère.
The III Gallica was dissolved following a rebellion against Elagabale into 219, but reformed by Sévère Alexandre.
