Lee Myung-bak

Lee Myung-bak (born the December 19th 1941 with Yongil-gun (province of the Gyeongsang of North), is a Politician South Korean member of the Grand national party.

Biography

Imprisoned for six months in 1964 to have protested against the standardization of the diplomatic relations between the Japan and the South Korea, whereas it was student, Lee Myung-bak then occupied of the management positions in subsidiary companies of Hyundai between 1977 and 1992.

Appointed since 1992, he was mayor of Seoul from July 1st, 2002 to June 30th, 2006. During its mandate, it carried out important renovation works urban.

Lee Myung-bak is in favor of a hard line in the relations with the North Korea.

In November 2006, a survey places it in position of favorite to become the next South Korean president in 2007, even if its advance had been reduced in July 2007.

After having gained, the August 19th 2007, the internal primary elections with the Great national party (with 49,6% of the voices compared with 48,1% with its rival Park Geun-hye), Lee Myung-bak consolidated its position of favorite for the presidential election of December.
