Lee Dorsey

Lee Dorsey is a singer of Rhythm and blues American (December 24th, 1926 - December 1986, the Orleans News), known for its piece Ya Ya become a standard of the Twist and taken again by John Lennon, and for its interpretation of Working In The Coal Mine .

Biography

Former boxer working as feraillor in New-Orleans, Lee Dorsey is located by Marshall Sehorn which becomes its business manager. The first recording of Dorsey in 1961, with Allen All Saints' day with the piano, is Ya-Ya which leaves on the Fury label. The song is classified n°1 charts Rhythm & blues and n°7 of the public classifications all in the United States. This success enables him to leave in round with Big Joe Turner, Chuck Berry, Lowell Fulson and T-Bone Walker. The following disc, C-Re-Semi , is classified n°27 in January 1962. But the recording company made faillitte and Dorsey fall into the lapse of memory during three years.

In 1965, it finds Sehorn and records Ride Your Pony writes by Allen All Saints' day, which is classified n°28. Follow Get Out Of My Life Woman , Holy Cow and especially Working In The Coal Mine in 1966. Although popular success is not any more with go, Lee Dorsey never ceases recording. It leaves the album Yes We Can at the end the Années 1960.

Lee Dorsey ends up knowing the recognition of its pars: Southside Johnny invites it on its first album and the group The Clash requires of him to make the first part of its American concerts in 1980. The Beastie Boys pay to him homage in the song Sure Shot .

Lee Dorsey, reached by the Emphysema, dies right before its sixty years.
