Ledeuix

Ledeuix is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

Ledeuix (to pronounce “ lédeuch ”) is located in high Béarn at 3 km of Oloron Sainte Marie, in edge of the plain of the gave and is leant with the first slopes.

Hydrography

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by the Gave d' Oloron and by its affluents, the brooks the Auronce (and by its tributaries, brooks Berdoustou and of Peyroulet), Laberou (and by its tributary, the brook of Gourguet) and Blalière. Affluents of Lèze (which feeds the Luzoué), the brooks of Malarode, Artigaus and its tributary, the brook of Labaigt, are also present on the commune.

The toponym Ledeuix appears in the forms Ledux (Xe century, cartulaire of the abbey of Lucq), Leduixs (XIIIe century, Fors de Béarn), Laduix and Laduixs (1328, titles of Béarn), Laduxs (1344, notaries of Pardies), Laduxium (1374, contracts of Luntz), Feels-Martii Leduxs (1420, notaries of Lucq), Leduix (1538, reformation of Béarn) and Leduch (1779, enumeration of Goès).

History

Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.
In 1385, Ledeuix depended on the Bailliage of Oloron and counted 43 fires.
