The family of the Lécythidacées is a family of plants Dicotylédone S. According to Watson & Dallwitz, it includes/understands approximately 325 Espèce S divided into 10 kind S:

• Allontoma, Bertholletia, Cariniana, Corythophora, Couratari, Couroupita, Eschweilera, Grias, Gustavia, Lecythis .

They are trees of the subtropics to tropical of America.

The Classification of Cronquist (1981) locates the family in the order of the Lecythidales and includes there Asteranthacées, Barringtoniacées, Foetidiacées and Napoleonaeacées.

The phylogenetic classification locates it in the order of the Ericales and includes there, additionellement, the Scytopétalacées. It distinguishes 5 subfamily S:

• Napoleonaeoidées : Crateranthus, Napoleonaea

• Scytopétaloidées: Asteranthos, Brazzeia, Oubanguia, Pierrina, Rhaptopetalum, Scytopetalum
