Lech Kaczyński

Lech Aleksander Kaczyński , born the June 18th 1949 with Warsaw, is president of the Republic of Poland since the December 23rd 2005. He is member of the party Prawo I Sprawiedliwość ( Droit and justice ) which he founded in 2003.

Biography

In their childhood, the twin brothers Lech and Jarosław played in a Polish popular film of 1962 Histoire of two children who stole the Moon (title Polish: O dwóch takich, Co ukradli księżyc ) based on a book for children of Kornel Makuszyński. By playing the part of sympathetic nerves young imps, they have both gained a level of celebrity who will be useful for them in their posterior political career. In the years 1970, Lech Kaczyński is an activist of the movement Démocratique and Anti-communiste in Poland, and becomes in August 1980, adviser at the Strike committee of the shipyard of Gdańsk and of the movement Solidarność. During the martial law in Poland imposed by the Communist in December 1981, it is interned like “element anti-Socialist”. When the Solidarność movement is legalized towards in 1989, Lech Kaczyński is an active adviser of Lech Wałęsa and with the Comité of Citizens Solidarity (Komitet Obywatelski Solidarność) .

In June 1989, it is elected member of the Senate and vice-president of the trade union Solidarność . After the fall of the Communist regime, the ambitious twins often acted as slides to support alliances between the various right-wing groupings.

He is the principal adviser of Lech Wałęsa when this one is elected president of the Republic of Poland in December 1990. At the time of the first democratic presidential election of post-war period, in 1990, their support for Lech Wałęsa is crucial in the victory of the old figurehead of Solidarity. Wałęsa names Kaczyński national Minister for safety. After having occupied of high positions at Wałęsa, the Kaczyński twins scramble themselves with the Polish president because of their opposition to the “therapy of shock” managed with the Polish economy and, especially, of the conflict concerning the government of Jan Olszewski.

Lech Kaczyński is the president of the Supreme Room (Najwyższa Izba Kontroli), NIK) of February 1992 at May 1995 and later Minister for justice in the government of Jerzy Buzek (June 2000 - July 2001). In 2001 it founds the conservative party PiS, and is elected 2002 mayor of Warsaw, capital of the Poland. As a mayor, he arrives, inter alia, to make build the museum of the Insurrection of Warsaw and to prohibit a demonstration organized by homosexual associations. The March 19th 2005, it declares officially its candidature for the presidential election of 2005.

During the countryside of legislative, the Kaczyński twins promised a “moral revolution” in Poland, after four years of left government marked by corruption scandals with repetition.

He is finally elected president of the Republic of Poland the October 23rd 2005.

Since the beginning of the year 2006, it largely was however décrié for various reasons.

After the presidential election, his/her brother, Jarosław Kaczyński, had initially refused the station of Prime Minister, before occupying it later a few months. The Poland is at present the only country where two brothers occupy the stations of Head of State and of Prime Minister.

Lech Kaczynski also carried out verbal skids, just as several members of its government, of which some (Roman Giertych, Andrzej Lepper, etc) are affiliated with the fringe ultraconservatrice of the Catholic church, and professing nationalist ideas and anti-semites.

But it is especially the bill of Lustration of 2007, which aims at purging the public administration of the former collaborators of the communist secret services, which caused a very strong reprobation, in Poland like abroad, especially in France.

With the legislative elections of October 2007, its party essuie an electoral reverse vis-a-vis the liberal party Civic platform.

Anecdote

At the time of a visit of Lech Kaczynski in Israel, a local newspaper published by error the photography of its homonym Ted Kaczynski, so known Terroriste American under the name of " Unabomber ".
