Lebanese diaspora
The Lebanese diaspora account between 10 million and 15 million people of origin Lebanon ease. This evaluation takes into account the Lebanese emigration since the 19th century. It mainly consists of Christians with a strong representation Shiite.
History
Towards the end of the 19th century, the Christian of the the Middle East are tried by the Latin America. The Christian inhabitants of current the Syria, Palestine and Lebanon will be attracted by the money. This emigration is very strong and continues until the day before civil war. Today, much of these descendants of Lebanese were assimilated by their host country and do not regard any more Lebanon as their country, the only criterion of distinction should then be the detention of documents of identity Lebanese in due form.
Many emigrants Lebanese return to Lebanon for their retirements, and sometimes even front. It is as frequent as young people Lebanese leave to make their studies in Europe, in North America or Australia, and go back to Lebanon to work.
When the civil war bursts in Lebanon, it is not possible any more with this kind of emigrants to return to Lebanon. Moreover, the war lasts of 1975 with 1990, which causes the escape of a great number of Lebanese towards Syria or the countries where a family member is present. This emigration of Lebanon is not made for economic reasons like the preceding one but to flee the war. This emigration is also different from the preceding one since it touches also the Musulmans of Lebanon.
Immigration country
The majority of Lebanese abroad are in Latin America, and more precisely with the Brésil which counts about 8 million Lebanese. The Colombia (300 000), the Venezuela (100 000) and the Argentine are also countries which have people resulting from the Lebanese diaspora; these countries accommodated a great number of refugees of the war of Lebanon. The majority of these Lebanese are Christians.
