A learned society is an association of scholars, enabling them to meet, expose the result of their research S, to confront themselves with their pars, Spécialiste S in the same field, and finally to diffuse their work via a Revue.

In France, the rise of the learned societies dates from the 18th century; these associations in the French areas meet around various topics, of which in particular regional history or the study of the regional inheritance.
