League improvisation

The Ligue of improvisation is a specifically French-speaking phenomenon in the beginning. The first league, the National league of improvisation, was born with the Quebec in 1978. It has since fact of the followers in France, in Belgium, Suisse and Italy.

The leagues are association S of actors, generally professionals (although there exist also leagues of amateurs), whose main object is the competition in the form of Match of improvisation.

In France

The Ligue of French improvisation (LIF) was born in 1981 under the impulse, partly, of the Théâtre of the unit . The LIF was the first in France to organize spectacles of theatrical improvisation, in the form of matches.

After some matches public in round, the first regular season took place with the Theater of the Gold Staircase with Paris in 1982. Three teams shared the championship: reds, the Blue ones and Yellows. The first televised retransmission was that of a match France - Quebec with Aubervilliers.

The following year, the League passes a course by installing its skating rink to the Bataclan which, at the time, had a capacity of 800 people but accommodated 1.000 regularly even, finally, 1.200 people.

The League sets up, in addition to the matches, of the events like the first 24:00 of the impro , 24 hours not-stop of improvisation. Then they are the world first of impro to Montreal, gained by the Inhabitants of Quebec with a French team finally.

The LIF also created the network of the “derivative products”, matches in company, mini-spectacles, impros in conference and especially “the hoaxes” created after the famous evening of the hundredth of Ciel, my Tuesday! of Christophe Dechavanne, the November 20th 1990.

The League dies of impossibility of making profitable a production, playing one evening per week with a plate of 32 people.

Beside the LIF creates for itself the LIFI (League of French Improvisation of Île-de-France) which join at the beginning refused of the matches of the LIF. Irony of fate, the LIFI will see arriving part of the players and players of the LIF when this one definitively closes its doors after a few last years with the Cirque of winter. This one is too large for it in spite of a filling of more than 1.000 people. Other spectacles of impro are born from the experiment of the LIF, inter alia Kamikaze Impro (created by Eric Métayer) and '' the Circle of the liars '' (imagined by Christian Sinniger), given to Paris with the Comedy Bastille. Many spectacles of Café-théâtre of improvisation follow today the furrow traced by the actors pioneers of the LIF.

In Belgium

The Belgian Ligue of improvisation (LIB) is the Belgian version French-speaking discipline of the Match of improvisation. It was created in 1984, according to the example of the Jouteur S of the National league of improvisation of the Quebec.

The first representation took place the December 10th 1984 with the Halles of Schaerbeek. The League then evolved/moved in various theaters of Brussels, before settling in 1999 with the Théâtre Marni with Ixelles.

Since its creation, more than 200 actors took part in the matches of the League. Certain large contemporary French-speaking Belgian actors come from its rows, like Laurence Bibot, Bruno Bulté, Bernard Cogniaux, Eric De Staercke, Virginia Hocq, Marie-Paule Kumps, Olivier Leborgne, Philippe Résimont, Patrick Ridremont, Nathalie Uffner or Gudule.

The teams take part in the meetings and festivals national and international, of which the World cup of improvisation. The League organizes also workshops or training courses with the improvisation.

The Dutch-speaking League, Belgische Improvisatie Liga (BIL) was creates in 1989. It was supplemented in 2000 of an academy of formation for young actors.

The leagues of professional improvisations Belgian caused the appearance of many leagues amateurs.

In Switzerland

The Leagues of improvisation of French-speaking Switzerland are organized by canton: there are some in the cantons of Geneva, of the the Jura, Neuchâtel, of the Valais and Vaud.

In Italy

The Match of improvvisazione teatrale is the League of Italian improvisation. It was born in 1989.

In Luxembourg

Since 1998, L.i.L is leader in the world of the theatrical improvisation in Luxembourg.

In other countries

There exist today Leagues of impro to the Grand-Duché of Luxembourg, in Argentine, with the Brésil, the Morocco, Puerto Rico and in Czech Republic.
