Challenges of the League in 2005

Vis-a-vis the other Canadian leagues major junior

The LHJMQ always adopted a style fast and exciting, based on the offensive talent of its players. Whereas the two other Canadian leagues junior, is the Ligue of hockey of Ontario (OHL) and the Ligue of hockey of the West (WHL), were moulded with the style more defensive and closed majority of the teams of the National league of hockey, the Courteau circuit put more on the rough talent of its young products. The League was always recognized for its excellent guards, and its talented offensive players.

The league and the fishing out amateur of the LNH in 2004

The year 2004 was, according to the opinion of many experts of the world of hockey, one year disastrous for the LHJMQ at the time of the fishing out of the LNH. Whereas the eyes of the repêcheurs all were turned towards the Europe, OHL and WHL, the LHJMQ made poor figure with only one player fished out in first round (Alexandre Picard). Several analysts support however that they are only cyclic periods, and that in a few years, the LHJMQ will produce more. Nevertheless, one cannot deny that the two other Canadian Leagues are currently preferred professional repêcheurs: whereas the Ontarian League produces excellent players who are at ease in all the situations, the League of the west has been dissociated by the exceptional quality of its defenders for a few years (One has only to think of Dion Phaneuf, Cam Barker, Braydon Coburn, Brent Seabrooke, Shawn Belle, all fished out in first round).
