The Ligue S lombardes were active military alliances with the XIIe and 13th centuries. Founded by the cities of the north of the Italy, princiaplement of Lombardy, these leagues aimed at thwarting the hegemonic ambitions of the emperors German.
Casement bolt, Mantoue, Bergamo and Brescia formed the first league lombarde in March 1167, then united there Parma, Padoue, Milan, Vérone, Plaisance and Bologna. The league carried the victory of Legnano vis-a-vis the Emperor Frederic I {{er}} Barberousse in 1176. Frederic Ier was constrained to sign the truce of Venice in 1177 and the lombardes cities obtained the recognition of their freedoms while accepting imperial suzerainty by the Paix of Constancy.
The second league formed in 1226 to fight the Emperor Frederic II, grandson of Barberousse, was crushed in 1237.
Contemporary time
The league was ressuscitée with Cortenuova, in the Années 1980, in the form of a political party requiring the division of Italy in federate Republics. Renamed League of North in 1991, it made its bed of the political scandals in Italy and was carried to the capacity at the time of the elections of March 1994 while being combined with two other right parties.
