League Communists

The Ligue of the Communists was the first international organization whose ideas can be regarded as Marxist.

The league was created at the origin like Ligue of right the by German Ouvrier S with Paris in 1836. The League changes name into 1847 and becomes the League of the Communists.

It was at the beginning a group approaching the Utopian socialism, near to the ideas of Gracchus Babeuf and Wilhelm Weitling. Become an international organization (primarily European), the League is joined in 1847 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

Among its members appeared: Johann Eccarius, Friedrich Engels, Ferdinand Freiligrath, Wilhelm Liebknecht , Karl Marx, Joseph Maximilian Moll, Karl Schapper, Wilhelm Wolf…

In February 1848, the League makes publish a Proclamation: the Proclamation of the Communist party . The text is based on collective discussions, and the final drafting is of Marx.

The Révolution of Mars makes it possible militants of the League to return of exile, and to take part in the revolution in Germany. But the defeat of this movement involves arrests, lawsuits, and new exiles.

The League of the Communists is dissolved in 1852 on proposal of Marx. One decade later, of many ex-militants to the International association workers during his creation in 1864 adhere.
