Le Monde of Sophie (original title: Sofies verden ) is a philosophical novel published in 1991 writes by the Norwegian writer Jostein Gaarder.

The novel wants to be an introduction to philosophy, its various movements and its evolution.

Summary

Sophie Amundsen is a young Norwegian teenager approaching the 15 years living with her mother and her pets. One day, it receives a mysterious letter pushing it to put the following existential questions: “Which are you? ” then “From which the world comes? ”. It is found catapulted, a little in spite of it, in a philosophical world including/understanding the courses of philosophy given by enigmatic Alberto Knox and the strange demonstrations of a certain Albert Knag.
