Layman

The layman is the reality ordinary, unimportant, which is defined only compared to crowned.

The concept of layman is defined in opposition to that of Sacré: is profane all that is not crowned. It is defined in a human group founded on an initiation or a revelation: for example the Religion where crowned all indicates that milked with divine, then determining the remainder of its world like layman.

One also names layman an individual who does not belong to the initiatory group or does not know the revelation founder of it (for example a incroyant for a believer).

By extension, the term more generally nominates a person who is not informed of a fact, of a practice.

The act to introduce elements about the layman inside a devoted enclosure (in a real way or symbolic system) is named Profanation, which is a Sacrilège for the believer with this crowned.

One will note the etymology word Profane (which is not devoted, which is not initiated, ignoramus) comes directly from the Latin profanum (of pro “in front of” and Fanum “devoted place”).

One must in Agamben, a more political design of the concept of layman: " to profane, it is to restore with the common use what was separate in the sphere of the sacré" .
