Laying-Novo (in Corsican Big shot Novu ) is a borough of the commune of Castellu di U Rostinu located on the RN 193 between Bastia and Corte.

In this place, the May 8th 1769, at the time of the Battle of Big shot Novu, the Corsican troops carried out by the General Pascal Paoli are overcome by the army of mercenaries sent by Louis XV. This event puts an end to the young Corsica republic , born in 1755 in spite of a suzerainty claimed by the République of Genoa. This suzerainty was sold with the France. After several victory of the Corsicans, in particular at Borgu, the October 5th 1768, their defeat with Ponte Novu put an end to the independence of the island.
