In France, the criminal law represses the acts which are a demonstration of racism.
The law amended of July 29th, 1881 and the penal code repress various intrigues considered as racists.
The law of 1881 aims at the infringements made by the press and the other means of communication: the provocation with discrimination, with hatred or violence, the slandering and the insult at a rate of the origin or of the membership racial, ethnic, national or religious, the apology and the dispute for the crimes against humanity.
The author of words, writings or images in racist matter is punishable when the accused attacks are addressed by any means of communication to the public, including by Internet, when well even the site would be based abroad, provided that the litigious matter is diffused in France.
The public prosecutor can take office the initiative to continue the author of the racist infringement, without preliminary intervention of the person or the group of people who were victims.
