Law of the witnesses
The law of the witnesses of the March 28th 1793 is a law which defines the hearing of the witnesses against marked defendants of emigration:
Text of the law
“The Public prosecutor will make quote people whose good citizenship will be certified, at least two, of the commune of the residence of the defendant, or, failing this, of the neighbouring places, to make recognize if the defendant is the same person whose emigration is noted by the list of the emigrants, or by the decrees of the administrative bodies”.If the emigrant were recognized by the witnesses, this one was carried out at once, without any judgment. A decree instituted in 1794 carried the capital punishment against a false witness in an important business. Another decree created the same year made prohibition to make appear before the revolutionary Tribunal the people on the report/ratio of which the defendant had been translated in front of the court. Another law, that of the March 5th 1796 decided that the parents or allied of marked could not be pilot against the others marked. The penal code made the share of the criminal matter false witness of the civil matter false witness.
