Law 7 of football: duration of the match

The article Law 7 of football: the duration of the match states the law 7 of football and presents various considerations relative to this law. Law 7 refers to the duration of the match.

With the Football, the laws of football is the name given to the rules of the game of football. They are decided on the level of the International Football Association Board (IFAB); the last version goes back to 2000.

Periods of play

The match is composed two 45 minutes periods each one, unless another duration was not agreed by mutual agreement between the referee and the two participating teams. Any agreement concerning a modification of the duration of the match (for example a reduction of each period to 40 minutes because of an insufficient lighting) must imperatively intervene before the kickoff and be in conformity with the payment of the competition.

Veterans: 2 X 45 minutes
Senior: 2 X 45 minutes
18 years (16 years FFF)
15 years (14 years FFF): 2 X 40 minutes
13 years: 2 X 35 minutes
Youngest children: 2 X 30 minutes
Chicks: 50 minutes in 2 or several periods (in the form of plates)
Initial: 40 minutes in 2 or several periods (in the form of plates)

female Competitions

Senior in " National" : 2 X 45 minutes
Seniors Except " National" : 2 X 45 minutes
13/16 years: 2 X 35 minutes
Benjamines: 2 X 30 minutes
Poussines: 50 minutes in 2 or several periods (female tests or poussines with 7)
Beginners: 40 minutes in 2 or several periods (meets inter-schools of football with 5)

The half-time

The players are entitled to a pause between the two periods. The pause of the half-time should not exceed 15 minutes. The payments of the competitions must clearly define the duration of the pause of the half-time between the two periods. The duration of the pause between the two periods can be modified only with the assent of the referee.

Recovery of the stops of play

Each period must be prolonged to recover all the time lost caused by:

replacements,

the examination of the wounds of the players,

the transport of the players wounded out of the playing field,

operations aiming at wasting deliberately time,

very other causes,

Note: the duration of the recovery of the stops of play is at the discretion of the referee.

Kick of repair

If a kick of repair must be carried out or started again, the duration of each period must be prolonged to allow the execution of it.

Prolongation

The payment of the competitions can envisage to play an extension by two equal periods. In fact, in fact the conditions stated in Law 8 are applicable.

Final adoption of the match

A match stopped definitively before its term must be rejoué, except contrary provision enacted in the payment of the competition.
