Laverq
The small valley of Laverq is a small valley of the Alp-of-High-Provence, in France, of orientation south-north, traversed by a river: Riou of White, flow of the Ubaye. It belongs to the commune of Méolans-Revel.
This small valley is a ramification of the Vallée of Ubaye. It is surrounded by mountains, of which emblématiques are the Small one and the Grande Séolane in the east (2854 and 2909 meters), as well as the Tête of Estrop (2961 meters) in the south. In the center of the small valley one finds a small mountainous chain with Aupillon and the Head of Chabrière mainly. These Geographical characteristics particular and its insulation melt of it a world appart, a true natural entity where the climate is wetter besides there than in the close valleys. The major part of the small valley of Laverq is covered by the National forest with Laverq
According to the tradition, the word of Laverq would come from “green lake”. The morphology of the ground returns this very rational etymology: there was certainly formerly a considerable landslide downstream from the Abbey, opposite the Pre one of the Cows. The torrent not having an exit then formed a lake in which the meadows and the wood of ubac were reflected, giving the illusion of a green water. Little by little, Riou of White corroded the ground and was made a passage. This Rivière bears a name due to the eternal snow and the glaciers which feed the river.
The small valley counts several hamlets, the principal ones being the Trip hammer, St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre and Clarionds. One finds there the ruins of a monastery of XIIe century: the Abbey of Laverq (which gave its name to the small valley), with the foot of Small Séolane.
