Lavaur (in Occitan Vaur ) is a common department of the Tarn, in the area the Midday-Pyrenees, in France.

Geography

Lavaur is held on left bank of the Agout. It is located at the east-north-east of Toulouse, in the south of Gaillac and in the west of Castres. Its inhabitants are the vauréens and vauréennes.

History

  • 1025 : A strengthened small town is described in several writings.

  • 1098 : Construction of the church Saint Alain. The ground will be offered by Isarn then bishop of Toulouse.
  • 1181 : The city is besieged because living a hearth of Cathares heretics. It will go quickly to its attackers.
  • 1211 : Lavaur is taken by Simon de Montfort during the Albigensian Crusades after a seat of more than two months. Ram Guiraude, lady of the manor responsible the city is precipitated in a well. Eighty knights are hung and four hundred perfect and perfect will be burned on bûchers.
  • 1220 : Following the death of Simon de Montfort Lavaur is taken again by the future Raymond VII. He entirely exterminates the garrison of the city.
  • 1226 : Louis VIII following his countryside to subject Languedoc, makes a stopover with Lavaur. The Cordeliers, with the assistance of Sicard VI Viscount of Lautrec, are established in Lavaur apart from the city.
  • 1229 : Destruction of the fortifications of the city following the Treated of Meaux between Louis IX and Raymond VII.

  • Towards 1369 - 70: The inhabitants of the city force the English troops led by Jean Chandos to withdraw itself.
  • 1468 : Louis XI establishes Lavaur in county.
  • 1483 : Lavaur returns in the royal field of Charles VIII. A terrible epidemic of plague decimates the city.
  • 1540 : A session of the general states of Languedoc east held in Lavaur to discuss of a project of a ship canal between the Garonne and the Mediterranean, the future Channel of the South.
  • 1562 : Brothers cordeliers are martyrisés by the Huguenots.
  • 1589 : The State of the League in Languedoc, lend oath to Lavaur never not to recognize as king an heretic.
  • 1800 - 1926: Lavaur is sub-prefecture of the Tarn.
  • Medium of the XVIIIe century: Creation of a royal Manufacture of Silk S and fabrics.

  • the Tour of the Rounds. Last remainders of the fortifications of the city.
  • the Monastery of the Clarisses. Founded in 1642 by Sérène de Vézins, religious Clarisse of the monastery of Saline in Toulouse. Destroyed during the Revolution, it is raised in 1802. The current vault (1837), shelters since 1852, in a mounting, the body of Sainte Clementine, Vierge and Roman martyrdom, discovered in the catacomb of the Saints Thrason and Saturnin in Rome.
