Laval-des-Rapides
Laval-des-Rapides is an old city (1912) then quoted (1962) of the Île Jesus, which is today a district of the town of Laval to the Quebec. It was in the past a federal electoral constituency Canadian.
Origin of the name
In the beginning the name was the Downstream-of-Rapids bus the district is with the downstream of the rapids of Large-Sault in the Rivière of the Meadows. These rapids are submerged today because of the construction of the electric stopping (1930) on the Rivière of the Meadows on the level of Saint-Vincent-of-Paul and of the Island-of-the-Visitation.
Geographical location
The district Laval-des-Rapides of the town of Laval is in the center-south of the island Jesus. It is delimited north-western àu by the way of the feature-Square and the boulevard of the Memory, by the Daniel-Johnson boulevard in south-west, the Rivière of the Meadows and finally in the North-East by the boulevard of Laurentides.It is bordered by the sector Renaud of Chomedey in the North-West, by the sector Access-with-Plouffe of Chomedey in south-west, by the district Pont-Viau in the North-East and finally by 'arrondissment Ahuntsic-Cartierville of the town of Montreal in south-east.
Old name and nickname
Laval-des-Rapides was already made call Park-Laval bus there were in the past many forests in waste land at the end of the grounds of the inhabitants who had been established along the Rivière of the Meadows.
Population
After having known a very strong push of growth between 1951 and 1961 (385%) the population is stabilizing around 35 000 inhabitants. Although the number of housing increased between 1996 and 2001, the total population decreased because of the ageing of the population and owing to the fact that newborns 20 to 30 years earlier left the family hearth, without being replaced by new arrivals. It is one of the districts densément populated city, because there is less than 36% of one-family houses in the district. It is the 3rd populeux district of the city after Chomedey and Fabreville.
