Lauwersmeer

The Lauwersmeer is a Lac Dutch created by the man. The lake is located in the north of the Netherlands, on the border of the provinces of the Frise and of Groningue. It was created on May 23rd, 1969 by the closing of the Lauwerszee by a Digue.

History

The dominating reason for this closing was the Sécurité. After the floods of 1953 in Zealand, Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch the Highways Departments ) had two possibilities: the raising of the dams around Lauwerszee, or the creation of a dam of closing. The population made pressure and the choice of the dam carried it.

Installation

After closing, the shallow waters were not covered any more by water. The first, the majority of these old shallow waters were years not touched, so that a new nature could develop freely. Along the old maritime coast, the Schorre S were arranged like arable Land. Two Village S were built: Lauwersoog with its district of Robbenoort and the village of holiday of Suyderoogh, both located in the commune groninguoise of Of the Marne. The north-eastern part, Marnewaard, were arranged in ground of military training. One built there the factitious village of Marnehuizen, which is used like place as drive anti Guérilla. In the west of the road towards Lauwersoog, one arranged a great zone of Loisir S around the Nieuwe Robbengat.

The center and is of Lauwersmeer were left with nature. This part was set up in national park on November 12th, 2003.
