Lauteraarhorn
The Lauteraarhorn (literally the strongest Horn of Aar ) is a top of more than 4000 meters of altitude (4042 m exactly), being the second top of the " group; Schreckhorn-Lauteraarhorn". Located at the end is solid mass of the Aar-Gothard, in the the Bernese Alps, it consists of gneiss of good quality. This top is one of the last of the the Alps to being difficult to reach, and requires nearly 22 km of walk to reach the bivouac.
Louis Agassiz, geologist and glaciologist Neuchâtel ois, as his/her scientific colleagues are the first to be reached, in 1842, the top of Lauterraarhorn. They wanted first of all to reach the neighbor Schreckhorn, higher (4078 m), but were lost in the fog. They logaient on the medial moraine of the Glacier of Unteraar, under a large block " the Hotel of Neuchâtelois". Agassiz took measurements and is at the base of the theory of the glaciations, finally giving an explanation to present of blocks of Granite and Gneiss in the area neuchâteloise (erratic blocks).
