Etymology

Its historical novel name is the Aucet , attested in 1384 (of a Basque rebuilt Altzate ). The form Lausset is due to an agglutination of the article.

The name Aucet is based on the pre-indo-European root *Alz- very frequent in Hydronymie and which one finds in the name of the village of Alçay.
