Laurussia
Laurussia (also known under the name of Continent of the old red sandstones or Euramérique ) was a Supercontinent which was formed with the Silurien following the collision of Laurentia, of Baltica and Avalonia (Orogénèse Calédonienne). It included/understood current the North America and Europe of North and the East.
After its formation, the push of Gondwana in the south which high the mountains Hercyniennes at the end of the Dévonien Laurussia fracture along the mountains Calédoniennes, and the part is continent slips towards north into a process of sliding Faille. These faults are visible today in Scotland (the Great Glen, in which is the Log Born), or with Newfoundland. This phenomenon of slip stops with the Carbonifère. The collision with the Siberia - Kazakhstania in the East (with the Permian ) completes the formation of Pangée.
With the Cretaceous , Laurussia, then integral part of Laurasia, fracture themselves at the time of the opening of the Atlantique, more or less following the fault system which had weakened it in Dévonien.
Laurussia car its name of Continent of the old red sandstones of the sandstones of color red, due to the strong presence of Oxide iron, in the layers of Dévonien in North America and in the north of Europe, which indicates that most of the continent was emerged.
