Laurentino

Laurentino is a city Brésil ienne of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located in the Vallée of Rio Itajaí, by a Latitude of 27º 13 ' 00" south and by a Longitude of 49º 43 ' 59" west, with a Altitude of 345 meters. Its population was estimated at: 5606 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 70 km ².

The municipality is still covered mainly by the Atlantic Forêt virgin.

History

The first explorer of the area of Laurentino was a from the Azores name of João Venceslau Pereira. Arrived at the beginning of the 20th century, it was installed on banks of the Rio Itajaí C Oeste. A flood devastated in 1911 banks of the river and obliged the colonists to be installed on a higher point, where they built a sawmill, a manual mill and a warehouse. A little later it were installed further, definitively, on the municipality of President Getúlio. The colonization of the area begins truly with the arrival of immigrants Italy German NS and . To escape the risings, the colonists explored the forests, where they met Indians Xokleng, who fled with their approach. The pacification of the Indians was the fact of an young man of hardly 20 years, Eduardo of Lima E Silva Hoerhan, nephew of the famous Duque de Caxias. In 1957, the local room creates the municipality of Laurentino, which was actually established in 1962.

Tourism

The broken relief of Laurentino comprises many natural sites, like the Cave Notre-Dame de Lourdes and the cascade of Ribeirão Laurentino. Fauna and the local flora are very rich, in particular in the virgin zones of the forest, with in particular the presence of noble trees, like the Cèdre, as well as many species of birds. Agriculture is very present, in particular the culture of the Tabac, the Maïs, the Manioc, the Oignon and the Concombre. One also finds breeding in small rural properties. One counts finally some Industrie S in the municipality.
