Laurent Jalabert is an old runner cyclist French. He was in particular world number one of his discipline of 1995 to 1997 and in 1999.
Sporting career
The sprinter
Laurent Jalabert was born the November 30th 1968 with Mazamet. His/her brother, Nicolas, are also professional racing cyclist. He illustrates himself first of all by victories or good performances with the sprint, on profiles of race relatively flat. Thus, it gains the green shirt of the Tour de France 1992, and is classified second of the Championships of the world on road 1992. In 1994, it gains 7 stages over the Tour of Spain. Three months later during the turn of France, it falls during the first stage with Armentières. There are seriously wounded and remain several weeks hospitalized.
The truck driver-sprinter
The following year marks a change in its career, it continues to gain victories with the sprint like Milan-San Remo 1995, but its performances improve on the undulating races (victory over the Tour of Spain 1995. It finishes this year 1995 with more than 30 victories among which: Milan-San Remo, Walloon Arrow, Paris-Nice, the Turn of Spain. Over the Tour de France 1995, it gains a victory of stage and the points score, it is classified 4th with general classification. At the conclusion of this season, it becomes world number one and is elected “Vélo of world Gold” by the international press.
Thereafter, it is awaited by the French press like the successor of Bernard Hinault with the prize list of the Tour de France. During following seasons, he does not manage to carry out performances on this test. During these seasons (1996 and 1997), it consolidates its place of world number one by gaining many one week races like Paris-Nice in 1996 and 1997, the Midi Libre 1996. Its qualities of wheeler improve, it becomes world champion of the against-the-watch in 1997.
During the Tour de France 1998, marked by the Affaire Feasted, it is one of the spokesperson of the runners. It leaves the race during 17th with the whole of the Spanish teams. It becomes again world number one in 1999 with in particular 3 victories over the Lathe of Italy, the Tour of Romandie, the Catalan Semaine and the Tour of the Pays Basque.
The fighter
At the end of 2000, it leaves the team OUNCE, to join the formation CSC Danish Bjarne Riis. During these two seasons (2001 and 2002), it gains the classification of best climbing over the Tour de France (2001 and 2002). It also gains the Classique of San Sebastian these two years there.
The marathonian and the triathlète

It takes part now as an amateur in marathons, where it carries out honourable performances (Marathon of Barcelona 2007: 62e place and a time of 2:45 ' 52" , and the marathon of New York 2005: 391e in 2:55 ' 15").

on June 24th, 2007 it takes part in the Ironman of Zurich. It is classified 22e in 9:12 ' 29" and qualifies itself as of its first attempt for the ironman of Hawaii (October 13rd, 2007), which it finishes 76e in 9:19 ' 58".
Journalistic career
It puts a term at its career of professional cyclist at the end of 2002. Since 2003, it is consulting for France Televisions and RTL, for the cycle races.

Position in doping
