Laurent Clerc (Louis Laurent Marie Clerk) was born on December 26th, 1785 with the Balme-the-Caves, Département of Isere, a small village in the North-East of Lyon. Clerk has one will have very important for the members of the deaf community, as well French, as states-uniens. With Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, it has Co-founded the first school for deaf persons in North America, the Hartford institute for education and the instruction of the deaf person and dumb man on April 15th 1817 in the viel town hall of Simpleton, with Hartford, in the Connecticut. The school was later rebatisée the American school for deaf persons and in 1821, moved on its current site. This school is oldest for the deaf person with the the United States.

Biography

Born from a father notary and receiver from the taxes and mayor, and from a mother resulting from the local middle-class, it falls at the age one year from walked on and is made a scar on the cheek. It accepts little time after following it to the United States where they will found the first school for deaf persons, thus impelling the dash which will make it possible to the son of Thomas Gallaudet to create the university of the same name, only university for deaf persons, whom it will have the honor to see inaugurated a few years before his death in 1869.
