Laurent-Guillaume de Koninck
Laurent-Guillaume de Koninck (May 3rd 1809 - July 16th 1887) is a paleontologist and Belgian chemist born with Leuwen.
He studies the Médecine with the the University of Louvain and becomes assistant at the school of chemistry in 1831. He continues his studies of Chimie to Paris, Berlin and Gießen then sign sciences with Ghent and Liege. Of 1856 until the end of its career he is chemistry teacher with the Université of Liege.
Starting from 1835 it devotes its spare time to the Fossile S of the Carbonifère discovered in the neighborhoods of Liege and ends up being distinguished for its research on the layers dating from the Paléozoïque, more particularly for its descriptions of Mollusque S, Crustacé S and Crinoïde S of limestones of Carboniferous of Belgium. In recognition of this work the Geological Society off London decrees the to him Médaille Wollaston in 1875. He becomes professor of Paléontologie to Liege.
Its library is bought by Louis Agassiz (1807-1873) to be used as a basis for the library of the Museum off Comparative Zoology of the Université Harvard.
