Lauren Bacall

Lauren Bacall (born Betty Joan Perske the September 16th 1924 with New York) is a American Actrice of Cinéma .

Biography

Lauren Bacall begins off studies with the American Academy Dramatic Arts in 1939, which it cannot continue for lack of means. It starts a career of model then. In parallel, it makes small appearances on scene with Broadway. Engaged by the magazine Harper' S Bazaar in 1942 like model, it makes the cover in March 1943 of it. Noticed by the woman of Howard Hawks which encourages her husband to make him turn a screen test, it is committed to make its first film, the Port of the anguish in 1944, at the sides of Humphrey Bogart. It is in this film that it obtains the nickname “ The Look ”, “the glance”, in reference to a scene of film where, upright on the step of the door, it launches in Humphrey Bogart a glance remained famous. Its success is immediate, its so particular raucous voice and its talent of actress project it on the front of the scene.

She marries Humphrey Bogart in 1945. Regarded as incarnating a model couple in Hollywood, they remain together until the death of the actor in 1957. They make together three films after the Port of the anguish : the Big sleep ( The Big Sleep ), Passengers of the night ( Dark Passage ) and Key Largo of John Huston.

With died of Bogart, Bacall leaves California for New York where it occurs with the theater in Broadway. She plays in several parts until in 1995, of which Goodbye, Charley in 1959, Cactus Flower in 1965, Applause in 1970 and Woman off the Year in 1981. If this one slows down, it does not give up therefore its cinematographic career and turns regularly since 1959 with realizers as different as Sidney Lumet ( the Crime from the East-Express train in 1974, Robert Altman ( H.E.A.L.T.H in 1979, Prêt-à-porter in 1994), or Lars von Trier ( Dogville in 2002).

Lauren Bacall has two children of its marriage with Bogart, a producing son, Stephen Bogart and a girl nurse, Leslie Bogart. She marries Jason Robards in 1961 of which she has a son, the actor Sam Robards. They will divorce in 1969.

Lauren Bacall wrote two Autobiographie S, Lauren Bacall: By Myself in (1978) and Now in (1994).
