Laurel Aitken

Laurel Aitken is a Jamaican artist , born Lorenzo Aitken the April 22nd 1927 with Cuba. Brother of the singer Bobby Aitken it emigrated in Jamaica with his family at the 11 years age and implied himself quickly in the local music scene.

Recording Mento and Calypso as of the middle of the years 1950, it was one of the pioneers of the Jamaican Musique Ska lasting the years 1960 and known one big hit among the skinheads as well as other music lovers ska, Reggae and Rocksteady.

In 1958 it left an individual on Double Face has including/understanding Little Sheila and Boogie in my Bones which was its first recording on R&B, the first label of Chris Blackwell (founder of Island Records). In 1960 it is exiled in England where it will be soon qualified Godfather off Ska and Boss Skinhead .

The period 1950-1970 will see leaving its larger tubes, recorded at Blue Beat Records, Pama Records and Trojan Records. Also producing, he thus played a big role in the recognition of the ska and the reggae by the English public.

He continued to practically occur in concert until his death, he undergone an heart attack into 2004 before succumbing one year later to the 78 years age of a new attack the July 17th 2005 with Leicester, England.
