Laure Manaudou
Laure Manaudou , born the October 9th 1986 with Villeurbanne (the Rhone), is a French swimmer specialist in the medium-distance race (400, 800,1500 meters freestyle), back (50 and 100 meters) and of the 4 strokes (200 and 400 meters).
Laid off until in 2006 with the Circle of the swimmers of Melun Valley of the Seine where it was pulled by Philippe Lucas, it joined the club of Canet-in-Roussillon (Canet 66 swimming) with its trainer after the Championnats of Europe of swimming 2006.
In May 2007, it leaves its trainer to go to involve itself in the club inhabitant of Turin of LaPresse Nuoto . Following tensions appeared with its trainer Paolo Penso, she is laid off by her Italian club the August 6th. Since the month of September 2007, it is involved by her older brother, Nicolas, with Ambérieu-in-Bugey (Ain).
Biography
Beginnings
Laure Manaudou is the girl of Jean-Luc Manaudou, bank clerk, player and trainer of Handball, and Olga Schippers, origin Dutchwoman, who practices the Badminton. They had met on a beach with the Cape Fréhel. Eager to learn how to him to swim, they registered it with swimming as of the 5 years age.It has a big brother, Nicolas, born one year day for day before it and with which it swims, and a Florent little brother, born in 1990.
From 6 to 14 years, it belongs to the club of swimming of Ambérieu-in-Bugey, in the Ain, where it passed its childhood.
Noticed by Philippe Lucas, trainer married to a former swimmer of the team of Olympic France, this one convinces his parents to let it leave and promises to them to make a champion of it. The first years, it leaves food to the hearth its trainer to Melun before settling in an apartment close to the swimming pool to Melun to its majority.
The first successes
In 2001, at the time of the Championships of Europe juniors to Malta, it takes down two money medals on 50 and 100 meters back. The following year, at the time of the Championships of Europe juniors to Linz, in Austria, it becomes champion of Europe juniors on 100 meters back and double vice-champion of Europe on 50 meters back and 200 meters 4 strokes.In 2003, at the time of the Championships of France with Saint-Etienne, it obtains five gold medals (400, 800,1500 meters freestyle; 50 and 100 meters back), beats four records of France and is qualified for the Championnats of the world of Barcelona. Deprived of its trainer-mentor, it obtains disappointing results (7th of the 50 meters back, 11th of the 100 meters back, 13th of the 400 meters freestyle and 19th of the 800 meters freestyle). However, year 2003 is closed on a bronze medal on 100 meters back obtained at the time of the Championships of Europe in small basin with Dublin.
In 2004, at the time of the Championships of France with Dunkirk, it obtains four titles national (400 and 800 meters freestyle; 50 and 100 meters back). At the time of the Championships of Europe to Madrid, it takes down three gold medals (400 meters freestyle, 100 meters back and the relay 4x100 meters 4 strokes). With the Olympic Games of Athens in 2004, it gains three Olympic medals (gold medal on 400 m freestyle, money on 800 m freestyle and bronzes on 100 m back) and gives to France its first gold medal in a test of swimming since Jean Boiteux with Helsinki in 1952.
In 2005, at the time of the Championships of France with Nancy, it obtains five national titles (400, 800,1500 meters freestyle; 50 and 100 meters back). With the Championships of the world to Montreal, it obtains the gold medal on 400 meters freestyle. With the Championships of France in small basin with Chalon-sur-Saône, it takes down six national titles (400, 800,1500 meters freestyle; 50,100 meters back; 200 meters 4 strokes) and beats eight records. With the Championships of Europe in small basin with Trieste, it obtains three gold medals (400, 800 meters freestyle; 100 meters back) and beats the world records of the 400 meters (3 ' 56" 79) and of the 800 meters freestyle (8 ' 11" 25). With the end of the year, it gains the interclubs with CN Melun.
Dedication
At the time of the Championships of France 2006 with Turns, it glane nine national titles (200, 400,800,1500 meters freestyle; 100 and 200 meters back; 200 and 400 meters 4 strokes; relay 4 X 200 meters freestyle with its club of Melun) and beats the May 12th 2006 the mythical world records of the 400 meters freestyle in large basin (50 m), which was held since the Olympic Games of Seoul in 1988 by American the Janet Evans, lowering it by 4 ' 03" 85 to 4 ' 03" 03.The August 6th 2006, it again beats it at the time of the finale of the Championnats of Europe of swimming 2006 with Budapest, lowering it to 4 ' 02" 13. At the time of these Championships of Europe, it obtains in all seven medals (4 out of gold: 400 and 800 meters freestyle, 100 meters back and 200 meters 4 strokes; 3 out of bronze: 200 meters freestyle, relay 4 X 200 meters freestyle and 4 X 100 meters 4 strokes), thus equalizing the record of the number of titles in the same Championship of Europe held by the East Germany Ute Geweniger (1981) and the Hungarian Krisztina Egerszegi (1993).
She was crowned champion of the French champions by the daily newspaper the Team in 2004, is decorated with the Légion of honor and sees herself decreeing the price of Maurice-Schumann patriotism and the Olympic Grand Prix of the Académie of the sports.
An Olympic basin Laure-Manaudou was inaugurated close to its center of drive of Melun. In addition Laure, in close cooperation with its equipment supplier, launched the October 10th 2005 Catch me yew you edge , a struck collection of sport clothing of the butterfly, - symbol of the “four stages” of its life since its departure of Ambérieu-in-Bugey for Melun -, which it was made tattoo with the shoulder.

At the time of the Championships of the world of swimming 2007 of Melbourne (Australia), it confirms its statute of favorite by gaining two gold medals out of the 400 meters freestyle and the 200 meters freestyle (of which it beats the record the world), two money medals over the 800 meters freestyle and the 100 meters back and a bronze medal with the female relay 4 X 200 m (with Alena Popchanka, Sophie Huber and Aurore Mongel) and empoche 122.640 euros of reward. It is named better swimmer of these championships of the world with the American Michael Phelps.
The March 22nd 2007, François Pinault, founder of the group PPR, decided to engage personally at Laure Manaudou via Artémis, the patrimonial Holding chaired by his/her son François-Henri, and to finance the career of the swimmer during the five years to come. “It is a historical and single partnership in the French sport: it is an operation of patronage, not sponsoring. Laure will not have any obligation”, declared Didier Poulmaire, lawyer and agent of the swimmer. May 2007: rupture with Philippe Lucas and the Italian adventure
The May 6th 2007, Laure Manaudou, decides to separate from its trainer to leave to involve themselves in Italy and to thus approach his/her boyfriend Luca Marin. She declared that “between Italy and France, I choose Luca, the love of my life”.The May 9th, at the time of a press conference with Canet-in-Roussillon, it explains its choice to join the club Turin ois of LaPresse Nuoto and that it will try to give a new dash to its career, “to change drive”, “to modify things”: “There are things which I wanted to work and which Philippe did not want to make. In addition, the two Italian swimmers, Federica Pellegrini and Alessia Filippi, which is involved in Vérone, would not see very an good eye the presence of the Frenchwoman near them. Federica Pellegrini, large rival of Manaudou on 200 m, thus affirmed: “One involved each one on our side. Me that does not disturb me that Laure is involved in Vérone from time to time. But not more. I said it to Alberto Castagnetti. To the OJ of Beijing, that could not be differently. But I do not have absolutely anything against Laure. ”
The May 29th, Laure Manaudou, pier with water by Nicola Febbraro and Leonardo Tumiotto, two of his/her companions of drive, is victim of a fracture “to the fourth métatarse of the left foot” according to an official statement of its LaPresse club. Championships of France 2007: an awaited return
After its wound which had retained it out of the basins during three weeks, Laure Manaudou takes part in the Championnats of France of swimming 2007 which dispute 24 with the June 28th with Saint-Raphaël (Var). The “Manaudou serial”: end of the Italian adventure and return to Ambérieu

The August 28th, after several rumors during August on its future place of drive, Laure Manaudou announces, at the time of a press conference, which it has need of time before making a final decision concerning its immediate future. The French Olympic champion will involve herself during September under the supervision of her Nicolas brother, in Ambérieu. Distinctions
After one year 2007 marked by five world medals whose two gold medals, world records and two records of Europe, Laure Manaudou is indicated Nageuse of the year 2007 by American monthly magazine Swimming World Magazine . It becomes on this occasion the first French swimmer distinguished on a world level. The Frenchwoman in addition becomes European swimmer of the year for the second consecutive year.
