Laugh-Orangis is a common Frenchwoman of the the Essonne in area Île-de-France. It counts 24.000 inhabitants, named Rissois.
History
Although Laugh-Orangis does not have any vestige of the Préhistoire or the Antiquité, several archaeological discoveries enable us to affirm that two villages existed in the times moved back on the current site of Laugh-Orangis:- the first, in the valley, along a lane of which we are unaware of the importance, called successively “Regia, Regis”, or some times “Reyza, Reziae”;
- the second, on the plate, known at the 12th century under the name of “Orengiacum”.
On these two sites cut Silex were found, some of the Paléolithique, others of the Neolithic . In 1919, in a space ranging between the cemetery, the railway line and the trunk road, of the workmen of the “Sand pits of the Seine” discover polished stone axes, defenses and teeth of large animals, as well as blades of knives, needles and axes of bronzes proving the succession of inhabitants. The same year, at the locality “the sixty arpents” several burials of the 6th century are updated. More recently, in 1976 and 1986, two discovered are made along RN7, in the city even. A Gallo-Roman sarcophagus and two houses of the same time are the subject of excavations whose results come to be added to the historical heritage of our city.
The Gallic, Gallo-Roman and medieval times also left the trace of a quasi-continuous occupation perpetuated by the presence of the templiers then by the construction of several castles between 16th and 17th centuries. It is especially starting from the end of the 18th century that one knows best the history of our city thanks to well preserved municipal files. We know the big part today that took Rissois in the Révolution of 1789 and who was worth with Laugh-Orangis to be baptized “Brutus” during a few months. The village of 500 hearts which did not hesitate to send its representatives to the National Assembly to expose her complaints to it became today a town of 26.300 inhabitants.
