The Latin League of fifth century BC to 338 av. J. - C. was a confederation of approximately 30 villages and tribes of the province of the Latium in order to organize their mutual defense. Férentina is the protective goddess of the League.

History of the League

Originally, it is a question of creating a league of defense to protect the Alba-the-Long area around . During sixth century BC, whereas the Etruscan kings tried to sit their capacity on Aricia, the League prevented some.

In 493 av. J. - C., the Roman République concludes an agreement with the League called the Fœdus Cassianum (of the name of the consul Spurius Cassius which ratified the treaty) after the defeat from the League vis-a-vis the Legion with the Bataille from the lake Régille. The years which followed were prosperous, the agreement warning Latium of all invasions and making it possible to outside make countryside against the hostile people like the Èques and the Volsques. Gradually Rome takes the control of the League.

After the First war samnite, in 340 av. J. - C., the treaty is broken and begin the Latin Guerres. After the victory of Rome, the League is dissolved and the cities of the League are subjected while being transformed, either in municipes, or in Roman colonies.

in -359 Tibur reinstates the Latin league. Préneste, Nomentum, Pedum is forced to reach it (from -358 to -354).
