The Latin America can indicate:
- according to a linguistic criterion, the worldwide of the American continent where one speaks about the Latin languages (Romance Langues), primarily the Spanish or the Portuguese (thus forming part of the Hispanophonie and the Lusophonie), and in less measurement the French (Haiti, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique). The Latin America thus includes/understands the major part of the South America, the Central America and the North America (the Mexico, even the New Mexico). In a direction much broader (and very minority), one would add to it the Quebec, the Acadie, the Louisiana (News-France) and Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon.
- according to a geographical criterion and cultural and according to a usually allowed division, the space included/understood Mexamerica in North, the Ground of Fire in the south and including/understanding, Mexico, the Central America and Caribbean, Andean countries, the southern Cone and the Brazil. This vast whole of 22 million km ² and more than 540 million inhabitants knows deep disparities but finds its identity in colonial histories and similar conquests of independences, modes of occupation of space and social reports/ratios comparable.
- according to a Geopolitical criterion, a “representation which goes against the traditional and geological division of the continent in three parts”, a unit which one can oppose to Anglo-Saxon North America.
